The Arizona Daily Star last night spread the news first reported by AZ Luminaria that Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the operator of the proposed three-phase data-center complex on the southeast side of town.
AWS is Amazon’s cloud.
The “who” of the project has sent newsrooms and city-watchers a-sleuthing and speculating. Me, too. I was primarily hoping it had nothing to do with Musk. The curiousity that has greeted this project is curious in itself. It is, after all, a data center. Crunch, crunch 24/7. The glamour escapes me.
But not the precedent. Project Blue’s success may usher Tucson into the future of computing, and that’s a good thing. If well planned. Water and power usage are critical. Take a seat at the table and participate in the planning.
